Cincinnati, OH, November 3, 2026 —

Cincinnati is set to witness a unique event this Thanksgiving, drawing inspiration from one of television’s most memorable and chaotic holiday moments: the infamous turkey drop scene from the classic sitcom ‘WKRP in Cincinnati.’ The event, planned for this Thanksgiving, aims to recreate the spirit of the 1978 episode where the radio station’s DJs, Les Nessman and Dr. Johnny Fever, orchestrated a giveaway of turkeys dropped from a helicopter, leading to widespread pandemonium.

The original scene depicted a Thanksgiving promotion gone awry, with turkeys, advertised as free, falling from the sky onto unsuspecting pedestrians in a Cincinnati parking lot. The humorous chaos that ensued has become a staple of television history, particularly during the holiday season, symbolizing the show’s quirky humor and its connection to the city of Cincinnati.

Details regarding the specific organizers, location within Cincinnati, and the exact nature of this year’s recreation remain undisclosed. However, the announcement promises a real-life homage to the beloved broadcast moment. It is anticipated that the event will capture the playful, albeit disastrous, spirit of the original on-screen occurrence. Further information about the participants and the planned execution of the turkey drop is expected as Thanksgiving approaches.

The ‘WKRP in Cincinnati’ Thanksgiving episode, titled “Turkeys Away,” is frequently cited as one of the greatest sitcom episodes of all time. It highlighted the comedic potential of a radio station’s desperate attempt to engage its audience with an outlandish promotion. The event planned for this year seeks to bring a piece of that televised comedy into tangible reality for the city’s residents and visitors. The community is awaiting more details to understand how this tribute will unfold.
