“I was a child who didn’t fit in,” Warshaw says, explaining the inspiration behind the series. “I barely finished high school. I still remember what it was to be an insecure little girl, and that’s why I want to write these for teens.”

That experience ultimately helped shape Warshaw’s vision for Sisterhood Sleuths. A lifelong entrepreneur, she has built her career around pursuing ideas and turning them into opportunities. In December 2024, she channeled that same determination into writing the series, creating adventures designed not only to entertain young readers but also to encourage them to think critically, stay curious, and look beyond the familiar.

“I don’t want my readers to use my books as an escape. I want them to use them to explore a world they might not be able to otherwise,” says Warshaw.

Warshaw instead uses fiction as a gateway to unfamiliar cultures, historical settings, ideas, and perspectives. Each adventure encourages teens to stay curious about the world around them while showing them that books can open doors to places, people, and possibilities they may never encounter firsthand.

Warshaw says her books are about more than entertainment. Through storytelling and the power of imagination, she challenges young readers to strengthen their reasoning and critical-thinking skills while developing a deeper interest in the world beyond their own experiences. With only 14% of U.S. 13-year-olds reading for fun almost every day, educators face a growing challenge: making books compelling enough to compete with today’s digital distractions.

“The decline in reading for pleasure tells us we have to rethink how we connect young people with books,” Warshaw explains. “I want my readers to discover that reading isn’t a chore—it’s a doorway to imagination, curiosity, and learning.”

“My hope is that every child who picks up one of my books discovers something that stays with them long after the final page,” Warshaw concludes. “If I can spark their imagination, strengthen their ability to think critically, and help them believe in themselves, then I’ve done what I set out to do.”
