Altera Agilex 2X FPGA Portfolio
Learn more about the Agilex 2X Portfolio
“Digital AI and Physical AI are expanding the opportunity for programmable logic uses, as developers build systems that must adapt to rapidly evolving workloads, technologies, and standards,” said Raghib Hussain, president and CEO of Altera. “Agilex 2X is designed to give customers one platform that delivers the performance and density the most complex Digital AI and aerospace and defense systems demand, and scales down to the low power and small footprint the intelligent edge requires. With QuartusIQ support, that scalable foundation protects their engineering investments and aims to get new designs to market faster.”
Agilex 2X builds on Altera’s proven, industry-leading fabric architecture with key innovations across the portfolio tuned to deliver performance-per-watt optimizations at the application level. Enhanced AI tensor DSP blocks accelerate compute in signal processing applications, the latest Arm cores accelerate embedded processing, high-bandwidth connectivity support mainstream and next-generation standards, and end-to-end security protects data and system integrity. Together, these capabilities provide a comprehensive platform to optimize end-system design.
The Agilex 2X portfolio spans four device families, each optimized for a different point in the performance-to-power spectrum.
- Agilex 27 FPGAs target processing- and bandwidth-intensive applications, with high-performance fabric, high capacities, high memory bandwidth, and next-generation connectivity for datapath processing, beamforming and RF processing.
- Agilex 25 FPGAs deliver a high-performance fabric and embedded compute with optimized I/O, transceivers and peripherals for applications like 4K/8K video processing, drones and low-latency sensors.
- Agilex 23 FPGAs integrate embedded compute, real-time processing and functional safety, suited for robotics, industrial automation and automotive systems.
- Agilex 22 FPGAs are right-sized for I/O-centric systems, offering high I/O density for board and rack control, motor control, root-of-trust and interface-bridging applications.
Together, the four families let customers build solutions across the FPGA landscape that scale performance and capacity on one end and low power and I/O density on the other, all within the same portfolio.
Every device in the Agilex 2X portfolio is supported by a unified Quartus® Prime software experience, extended by QuartusIQ AI expert companion to provide a consistent, agentic design flow accelerating customer time-to-market. With Quartus Prime software and QuartusIQ, customers can work from common design workflows and reusable IP across every family in the Agilex 2X portfolio to extend their investment as their requirements evolve. The portfolio also shares common security and embedded software foundations, including Arm-based hard processors and Nios® V soft processors, post-quantum-cryptography-ready secure boot, and shared functional-safety practices.
Launching Agilex 27 FPGAs
Agilex 27 FPGAs are the first family to launch within the Agilex 2X portfolio, targeting Digital AI infrastructure, terabit networking, 6G and satellite networks, and aerospace and defense applications. Agilex 27 FPGAs build on the architecture leadership of the prior generation Agilex 7 FPGAs with the 3rd generation HyperFlex fabric, capable of delivering 1.8X gen-over-gen performance/watt improvements. HyperFlex embeds registers throughout the routing fabric, giving Altera’s Quartus Prime software more opportunities to re-time and pipeline designs without consuming logic resources. New adaptive logic module (ALM) modes further enhance logic packing and performance across an even wider range of designs, letting customers boost performance while fitting into a smaller, lower-power footprint.
Agilex 27 FPGAs feature a new full-chip, distributed HyperFlow data network, delivering multi terabit-per-second data movement throughout the FPGA without consuming soft logic resources or introducing routing congestion. Device connectivity includes configurable transceivers at speeds up to 256 Gbps, hardened IP for 800GbE and 1.6TbE Ethernet, PCIe 6.0 and 7.0, plus DDR5, LPDDR5X, and LPDDR6 memory interfaces, MIPI, C-PHY 2.1 and D-PHY 3.0 support, and UCIe connectivity to enable future chiplets such as data converters and other technologies.
Altera’s Secure Device Manager establishes a hardware root of trust for Agilex 27 FPGAs, with secure boot, identity, attestation, protected key management, and physical anti-tamper protection. Built-in crypto agility supports post-quantum cryptography as requirements evolve. Additionally, datapath encryption protects every major interface at line rate, including Ethernet MACsec, PCIe Integrity and Data Encryption (IDE), and Inline Memory Encryption (IME).
Availability
Quartus® Prime software support for Agilex 27 FPGAs will be available to early access customers starting in mid-November. Engineering sample silicon for Agilex 27 FPGAs is expected in the second half of 2027. QuartusIQ, the AI expert companion for Quartus® Prime software, is now available for download as part of Quartus Prime version 26.3. QuartusIQ can be used across Altera’s FPGA portfolio supported within Quartus Prime Pro edition software. For more information, visit www.altera.com or contact your local Altera sales representative.
