KIRKWOOD, Mo. – Indoor Comfort Team has opened a technician training center at its Kirkwood headquarters and built a four-year program to certify its own heating and cooling technicians. The company has served the St. Louis area and the Metro East since 1979.

The training room sits inside the company’s building at 3640 Scarlet Oak Blvd., where Indoor Comfort Team moved in February 2025. Technicians gain hands-on experience with equipment, tools, and diagnostic systems before they handle the same jobs in customers’ homes.

 

The ICT Certification Program, short for Indoor Comfort Technician, was written by the company’s leadership and senior technicians, who also teach it. It takes people with little or no trade experience and provides classroom instruction, hands-on lab work, field days alongside senior technicians, and four years of mentorship. Those who pick it up faster can move through the program and finish sooner.

 

The curriculum covers system installation, refrigeration, electrical diagnostics, airflow and duct design, heat pumps, gas heating, sheet metal and ductwork fabrication, and safety and customer communication. Technicians continue training after certification as equipment change.

 

Every Indoor Comfort Team technician is NATE certified. NATE, short for North American Technician Excellence, is an industry certification used to measure a technician’s knowledge of the trade. Apprentices in the program are not sent out as technicians. They work under the supervision of an experienced technician.
